Hip hop hooray, the 5th of May! Cinco De Mayo is celebrated the world over, but it will be particularly memorable for my clients Francis and Kim; it was on this day in 2013 that they became Mr. and Mrs. Olive!
I first met the couple at the 2012 Newport Bridal Expo. I couldn’t wait to see them again on this warm spring day and get started making a visual record of their ultimate commitment. After the bridal party readied themselves at Newport’s Wellington Hotel, my assistant Sam Henry and I met them at picturesque King’s Park for some portraits. Their energy was infectious and we came away with some winning shots!
You can’t beat the ambiance of a beach ceremony. Francis and Kim were no exception to this. With the dazzling blue ocean as their backdrop, they had family, friends and even their two beloved dogs witness their vows, solidifying them as husband and wife. The wedding was not without incident however; police were called to remove a drunk bystander. Yikes!
The reception followed at Easton’s Beach Rotunda, which boasts 360 degree views of ocean, pond, and the renowned Cliff Walk. Centerpieces incorporated handfuls of shells, just in case anyone wasn’t clear on the nautical theme. The adjoining carousel was the ideal setting for some post wedding photo fun, though I must say snapping away while riding left me a little unbalanced afterward!
After a tearful first glance of Kim, her dad twirled her around the dance floor for the traditional father/daughter dance. Dad’s waterworks could not be stayed.
The evening continued, the drinks flowed and the dance floor got a workout…and the shirts came off… of the groom and groomsmen that is! They made sure to rival the bride and bridesmaids for the prize for “most memorable photo” by making several Vin Diesel –esque poses. What a riot!
In the true spirit of the day the guest received fresh homemade salsa as a favor on their way out. Delicious! It is with that that I’ll end by saying I wish Francis and Kim a lifetime of happiness and am truly grateful that they chose me to document their special day! (Written by Charlotte McGregor)
