October 19th, 2013 started out as a warm fall day, ideal for any couple to take the ultimate step of marriage, and though it later became cloudy, Avery and Brian couldn’t have been happier on “their day”.
My assistant, Ron Stella, and I split up for the first part of the day. I headed to Lisbon, CT’s Ulta Salon to take hair and make-up photos of Avery and her mother Cindy. Afterwards I went to Shelter Harbor, a rustic farmhouse, turned inn, to capture shots of Avery and her bridesmaid’s getting ready. Meanwhile Ron was at Brian’s home in Groton, CT, where he took picture of the groom prepping, and his groomsmen doing a fun toast.
Ron and I reconnected at Central Baptist Church in Westerly, RI for the ceremony. As their own pre-recorded version of “The Prayer” played in the background (both have impressive voices!), first Avery’s bridesmaids, adored in purple gowns, followed by the stunning Avery herself, glided down the aisle. Her groom looked on in awe as his wife-to-be drew nearer, her look topped off by a gorgeous beaded head piece.
A shower of confetti met the new couple as they exited the church and Chris Walsh Videography captured the whole thing with a mini remote helicopter! The now cloudy day ironically provided a wonderfully soft ambient lighting and the bridal party and family shots at Westerly’s picturesque Wilcox Park looked perfect!
I had the pleasure of returning to the Haversham Tavern, just up the road, where I had photographed a wedding once before. Here, we took more photos of the happy couple. The traditional dances were very emotional, especially the mother and son one. I enjoyed staying to the very end of this vibrant evening, where everyone danced the night away. Brian and Avery finally bid goodnight and drove away while their closest family members waved goodbye. An early flight and Mexican honeymoon awaited them the next day! Best of luck Avery and Brian!
