On a sunny and warm July 18th, 2014 my assistant John Maguire and I found ourselves headed over the causeway to Newport’s Goat Island for the wedding of Amanda and Kevin Twomey. I had actually already worked with the couple back in 2013 for an engagement session. Poor Kevin had an eye allergy at the time that redefined “red eye” for this photographer, but we actually managed to get some great photos.
The day began at the Hyatt, where I took some pictures of Amanda and her bridesmaids getting ready. A calm and collected group of ladies in matching robes and flip flops soon transformed into a stunning bride in a strapless gown accompanied by her gal pals in short flowing grey dresses. I removed myself to go shoot the groom and groomsmen at the iconic Goat Island Lighthouse just outside of the hotel. Once we wrapped up, the guys left and the girls followed for some additional photos with the same backdrop.
Newport Trolley whisked us away to St. Lucy’s Parish in nearby Middletown for traditional and touching ceremony and then it was back to Goat Island’s Belle Mer for the reception. This gorgeous all white venue boasts lofty ceilings and towering windows that look out on manicured lawns flanked by crushed white seashells and stunning views of Narragansett Bay. Amanda and Kevin had a “casual chic” theme that included fun games of cornhole and an impressive giant jenga, as well as a cozy fire pit to enjoy.
We took some portraits in the Belle Mer bridal suite and also many outside on the seawall and surrounding property. Everyone returned to an energetic reception assisted by the lively tunes of DJ Luke Renchen, though I did steal the bride and groom one more time for some sunset stunners.
At the end of the reception the couple was whisked away in true Newport fashion by local pedicab flanked by the words “Just Married” in lights on the back. I stayed for a few more photos of the ensuing after party back at the Hyatt but then took my leave. Congrats Amanda and Kevin!
