On a cloudy but pleasant September the 21st of 2014, two doctors committed to each other in sickness and in health when they walked down the aisle and said “I do”! I first met Sadie and Nick Elisseou at the 2014 Newport Wedding Expo. This sweet couple enlisted me to take their engagement photos at Blithewold Mansion in Bristol, RI. A side fun fact: this was my first time working with one of my now permanent second photographers, Sean Edward Brown, who is now my cinematographer as well.
Sean also assisted me on their big day. We first headed to the reception site at Newport’s Goat Island Hyatt Regency Hotel. I headed to photograph the ladies, while Sean went to photograph the guys. Sadie looked stunning in her billowing ball gown; this dress wowed with its illusion neckline, ruched sweetheart top, and multi-layered organza skirt. The bridesmaids wore short gray dresses that were a perfect compliment to the gray suits the men donned. A fun pop of orange came in the form of boutonnières and bridesmaids bouquets, and later was seen again on the cake.
A traditional ceremony took place at the nearby beautiful St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, conveniently located on a popular shopping and dining area of nearby lower Thames Street. We took some family shots there and then headed by trolley back to the Hyatt to take some bride and groom/bridal party portraits by the hotels famed lighthouse. This crew had some fun set ups for some of the pictures including one of the guys holding the girls bouquets. The cloudy weather hadn’t put any damper on the day, but how nice that just when the light was fading the sky cleared and we witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. We made sure to take advantage of that and took some really greats pictures.
The lively reception took place in one of the Hyatt’s interior ballrooms. The newlyweds were introduced and then when straight into their first dance, serenaded by Sadie’s sister touching rendition of “The Very Thought of You”. Greek and Arabic dance beats ensued throughout the rest of the evening and the crowd definitely got their exercise. Cheers to Sadie and Nick!
